Gun Violence In Los Angeles
Los Angeles is no stranger to gun violence and, in fact, has a much higher rate of gun violence when compared with the rest of the country and even with the rest of California itself. The crime rate in the city is over 75% higher than the rest of the state of California. In 2016, the rate of weapons-related crimes in LA was 24 per one thousand people which was higher than the national average. Over 35% of gun deaths in the country are the result of homicides. This comes out to approximately 33 people murdered by a gun every single day in the United States. Communities of color are the most at-risk for gun violence and gun-related homicides. Black Americans make up 74% of the gun-related homicides in the states of Michigan and New Jersey. Intimate partner relationships also have a higher incidence of gun-related homicide.
