Violent Crime In Los Angeles
Crime reports from 2019 show that violent crime has been on the decline in Los Angeles. For the past ten years, there were fewer than 300 homicides in the city. Where crime spikes have been seen in particular communities, such as with gangs and in the rising homeless population.
As of December 21, 2019, there were 252 homicides reported. There were 61 fewer shooting victims in 2019 versus 2018. There are many layers of punishment that come with homicide. If you have been arrested, charged, and found guilty capital murder, this is the most serious charge in California. You will be facing either a life sentence without the ability of parole or the death penalty.
If you are convicted of murder, jail time isn’t the only thing you should be concerned about. You could also be facing a wrongful death suit filed by the family of the individual who was murdered. This is a civil proceeding in which, if you were found liable, it could cost you quite a bit of money paid to the family of the person you murdered.
